Case Study: Ocean World Travel Cruises into Digital Signage to Capture Attention

Client Background

Ocean World Travel is a family-run travel agency based in Chandler’s Ford, near Southampton. Founded in 1995, Ocean World Travel began operations in Birmingham, before moving to Winchester and finally setting up an office in Southampton, ‘the cruise capital of the UK’.

Offering the opportunity to embark on special cruises that many companies cannot offer, Ocean World Travel sources cruises that travel to Alaska, Australia and the Caribbean, alongside many other countries and cities throughout the world. Uniquely alongside ocean cruises, they provide scenic river cruises that offer passengers an alternative experience centred around comfort and relaxation, departing to areas such as the River Nile, Douro, and the Moselle. By providing top tier consultancy and a friendly service, Ocean World Travel have succeeded in an age when much of the market is venturing online.

Project Requirements

Similar to other customer-facing businesses, Ocean World Travel relied heavily on static signage and posters to promote the services they provided. Not only was this underwhelming to passing footfall and traffic, it required constant upkeep and the costs that come with printing off traditional materials. Commercial Director, David Hearn, realised the need for a solution that would reduce the maintenance and time drain placed on the team managing this mundane task. An already modernised business, he looked to going digital in their window too.

After researching other digital signage companies, David discovered TrouDigital and was pleased to learn that they were only based locally in Southampton. Following a web demonstration and site survey, TrouDigital’s solution was implemented with two street-facing window displays installed to capture the attention of passersby.

On these screens, Ocean World Travel displays their latest holiday deals and offers, as well as promoting their tour and cruise packages. Alongside promotions of the latest offers, Ocean World Travel now uses their signage screens to encourage customers and passersby to engage with their social media accounts.

Being able to schedule the content on the screens means that constant upkeep is not required and updating the screens can be done from one central location. This has successfully alleviated pressure on staff and made their marketing more efficient, freeing up time for them to focus on customer service.
