Utilising our links with the University of Southampton, TrouDigital had the pleasure of employing a current student on an internship over Easter. We sat down with Dominic Hinchliffe to ask him about his time.
How did you find the internship?
“The internship was very enjoyable, and I am glad that I was selected for it. At times, it was challenging as lots of the tasks I was completing I had not previously come into contact with, so it was a learning curve. Overall, I learnt lots of new things and feel I really developed my interpersonal skills as part of the TrouDigital team.”
What did your internship at TrouDigital entail?
“My internship at TrouDigital lasted 4 weeks and was based at their headquarters at the University of Southampton Science Park. I worked mainly with two staff members, Mario, the director, and Lee, the marketing manager, to cover many different facets of the business. At the start of the internship, we formulated a list of things we hoped to achieve on the internship. This list included: implementing a new CRM system; starting an email marketing campaign; writing blog posts for our website and others; gathering backlinks to the website; as well as other tasks. With Lee and Mario’s guidance, I was able to complete all of these tasks.”
What was your favourite aspect of the role?
“My favourite aspect of the role was how hands-on it was, and how much freedom I was given to carry out different activities. I also loved the technological side of the role – using the digital signage software; writing blog posts on the latest advancements within the industry; as well as speaking to clientele about the new software features.”
Would you recommend the University of Southampton’s Excel Internship Scheme?
“I would highly recommend the Excel Internship Scheme to anyone at the University of Southampton. Taking part has given me extensive knowledge and skills that I would likely not to have found anywhere else. Southampton have also offered me advice and support along every step of the way. The process from application through to working 9-5 for TrouDigital was a smooth and fluid one.”
